Eczema Treatment Taunton & Norwood MA

Eczema

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a chronic skin condition that causes a very itchy, dry rash. Over time, untreated or severe eczema can cause skin discoloration and scarring. Up to 30% of children with moderate to severe eczema may have a food allergy that is contributing to their skin condition. Environmental allergies can also cause eczema to flare. The doctor will discuss with you whether testing for allergies is needed.

Contact Dermatitis

In some cases, people can develop allergies to chemicals and other ingredients that are commonly found in personal care products (lotions, shampoos) and in cleaning products. Adults are more commonly affected by this problem. Most people who have contact dermatitis have rashes on their hands and faces. These rashes can be very difficult to treat until the cause of the rash is found and avoided. Testing can be done to look for contact allergy, and the doctor can discuss with you whether this might be helpful.
